Austrian government donates PPE – Fiji
The Austrian government, as part of Team Europe, in collaboration with the European Union Delegation for the Pacific, provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth more than FJD 156,270.00 to assist the rigorous efforts by the Fijian government to contain the second wave of COVID -19.
The shipment consists of 250,000 medical masks and 250 woven blankets. This assistance is coordinated in collaboration by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Emergency Response Coordination Center (ECHO) with the European Union Delegation for the Pacific and the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. .
The assistance was officially handed over this afternoon by the European Union Delegation for the Pacific to the Department of Health and Medical Services.
The Ambassador of the European Union to Fiji and for the Pacific, His Excellency Sujiro Seam reiterated the commitment of the European Union to support Fiji and the region to contain the second wave of COVID-19: “Team Europe – the European Union, its 27 member states and financial institutions, responded to the coronavirus outbreak in Fiji last year with a combination of budget support to the Fijian government, assistance to civil society organizations and measures to strengthen the health system through the World Health Organization and the Pacific Community. Today the government of Austria, one of the member states of the European Union, is donating 250,000 medical masks and 250 woven blankets to the government of Fiji. ”
Ambassador Seam also gave an overview of the overall assistance to Fiji coordinated by the European Union delegation for the Pacific in Suva: âThe European Union stands in solidarity with the Fijian people in these difficult times. We continue to help Fiji tackle the second wave of the pandemic by providing essential personal protective equipment and testing equipment to the Ministry of Health, budget support to the Ministry of Economy, as well as immunization through COVAX installation and support for the most vulnerable communities. through partner civil society organizations.
