AYR and Queen of the South fans were embroiled in a shocking ‘mass brawl’ outside a pub which saw three men rushed to hospital.

Cops rushed to the Salutation Inn in the Market Square in Dumfries at around 5pm on Saturday night after reports of unrest.

Tempers flared after a game between Queen of the South and Ayr United in the city earlier in the afternoon, before descending into a full rammy on the streets.

The home side were relegated from the Scottish Premiership after a 1-1 draw with The Honest Men.

And football fans ended up fighting outside a local bar as shocking footage showed three people knocked unconscious.

Police confirmed witnessing the unrest in the market square after a number of assaults were reported.

Three men, aged 41, 54 and 58, have since been transported to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The extent of their injuries is not yet known.

The police have launched an investigation to establish all the circumstances of the fight.

They urged anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Allister Queen said: ‘This was a serious incident and it is essential that we find those responsible.

“This level of disorder and criminality will not be tolerated.

“Not only were people injured, but those trying to enjoy their weekend in the area were intimidated by the behavior of a small number of people.

“I urge anyone who saw what happened or has footage of the incident to contact Police Scotland.

“You can do this by calling 101 and quoting reference 2626 of 23 April 2022 or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Video footage emerged on social media after the scuffle took place in the street.

In the clip, a man is seen being pushed to the ground and the mass rammy sees people being pushed in the background.

People can be heard screaming as the fight spills out of the pub.

Salutation Inn declined to comment given the seriousness of the incident.
