Philanthropist, spiritual teacher, lifestyle coach, yoga entrepreneur and author, Grand Master Akshar, in a conversation with The Indian Express, listed some mistakes to avoid in order to reap the benefits of yoga.

  1. Moderation is essential

It is crucial to find a balance between physical exercises, one must be sensitive to the routine they follow and be careful not to overdo it. Overdoing any exercise can pose serious threats to the body. It is advisable not to exercise seven days a week, the body should have a rest day to rest. And along with exercise, taking care of sleep and nutrition is just as important.

  1. Take time to eat, sleep and recover

No matter how diligently you follow a specific routine, it’s for nothing if you don’t give yourself the nutrition, sleep, and rest your body needs. Pay attention to your body so that you don’t regularly feel tired or exhausted. Try not to consume junk food and stick to fresh home-cooked meals and a healthy diet.

  1. Sukshma Vyayam

Sukshma Vyayam in yoga terminology is known as warming up. Just like your workouts, you first start by warming up your body by running or stretching, the same rule applies for yoga. Yoga warm-up involves performing subtle exercises like rotating the ankles, hips, knee joints, neck, etc. This helps keep you injury-free and also prepares you for practice.

If, unfortunately, you suffer an injury, rest your body until you are completely healed. According to the expert, although the human body is capable of wonderful things, it is not a machine, so it requires regular rest and recovery times.

  1. Train at the recommended time

No one follows a specific routine, and people set aside time to practice yoga – some follow the routine early in the morning, while many do a yoga session in the evening. However, some yoga postures and exercises have a specific duration for specific practices, in case you want to get the maximum benefit from them. For example, Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is something one should preferably do early in the morning. While the Chandra Namaskar, also known as the Moon Salutation, should be performed in the evening when the sun sets.
