Watch live at 3 p.m. Bishop addresses allegations of child sexual abuse by Fort Wayne priest

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) – Bishop Kevin Rhoades called a press conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss charges of sexual misconduct against a priest in the diocese that surfaced this week.

Father David Huneck speaks to WANE 15 in 2018.

Father David Huneck is accused of committing “sexual and other misconduct, including with a minor”. No specific details of the alleged abuse were disclosed, but the diocese said it was made aware of the case on September 19.

Huneck, who served as a pastor at Saint Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Columbia City and chaplain at Bishop Dwenger High School, resigned both of his posts and was suspended from all public priestly ministry by the diocese.

He has not been charged with any crime. The Whitley County District Attorney’s Office is investigating these allegations.

Bishop Rhoades called a press conference Tuesday at 3 p.m. “to answer questions about how the diocese deals with accusations of sexual misconduct against priests in general and how the accusations against Father David Huneck have been handled” .
