Undergraduate students

As a student at Manchester Met, you are automatically a member of The Union, which means you have access to many opportunities and services throughout your time at university.

Find your collaborators

Meet a selection of our amazing student societies at first day of Freshers Fairor if sports are more your thing, come back for day two and meet our clubs. Both days will give you the opportunity to see what opportunities are available. Plus, you’ll walk away with a bag full of goodies and you’ll get a free slice of Domino’s pizza, so it’s a win-win. We also have a ‘Meet the companiesevent where you can choose to play from a selection of hundreds of board games.

Explore your union

It’s hard to describe what’s going on in the Union building – one day we’re having a sale of plants and posters so you can’Make your rooms a home‘ and the next day, the same space turns into a huge bingo event with a live host and wild prizes. Whether we organize a roller discoa Manchester themed club night or a full day culture dayall we do is make your time at the university enjoyable – so if you see our giant yellow wall, come in and get involved.

Postgraduate students

As a PGR student, we know you’re going to be busy doing amazing research here at Manchester Met, so we wanted to gather some information on how The Union is there for you throughout your experience.

Post-Graduation Pizza

We will run this event every year for postgraduates and it always ends in good talk and good vibes – all you have to do is drop by The Union and enjoy a free pizza, fresh from the kitchen from The Union.

The Salvation

Right next to the Union you will find The Salvation – your new local pub and one of Manchester’s most historic pubs. Serving a wide range of craft beers and ciders from around the world, we host regular quiz nights and even have a brand new beer garden.

International students

We want to help you settle into this amazing city and get your college life off to a great start, so be sure to take part in our comprehensive program of welcome events. Start your college experience with our Welcome to Manchester club nighttreat yourself to gifts at Freshers Fair (day 1 and day 2), and take a walking tour to learn about Manchester’s history.

Join us in The Union as we celebrate and showcase the range of cultures and nationalities that reflect the City of Manchester and the Manchester Met community. We’ll be transforming our main venue so you can take a culinary journey around the world with local food vendors and there will be a range of cultural performances including Latin dancing as well as demonstrations by some of our amazing dance groups. students.

With over 1,200 members, this Facebook group is a great platform for meeting other international students at Manchester Metropolitan University and gives you a space to discuss your experiences and share advice. We will also share here opportunities such as events, campaigns and opportunities for you to give your opinion to help you improve your time at university.

Commuting students

Living off campus or traveling to college? We want to help you make your Manchester Met experience amazing, so we’ve put together some events and tips on how to get your college time off to a great start.

Chill & Chat: Commuting Students

Enjoy free coffee and cake with other students heading to campus. you will be able drop by and chat and you will have the opportunity to get involved in informal ice-breaking activities to help make meaningful connections.

Join a company

Companies are a great way to meet students who share your interests and we’re spoiled for choice. You will have the chance to meet our companies at first day of Freshers Fair (and you can grab some goodies while you’re at it!)

Space to study

As a member of The Union, our building is all yours. You can enter The shop for a snack, have a coffee from Coffee or simply relax in one of our breakout areas between conferences. We have a study on the second floor which is a great place to check if you are looking for somewhere to concentrate and need to purchase a bus pass, our Financial office on the first floor is the place to go.)

PGR students

PGR hangout

Help yourself to free coffee and cake while you get to know your PGR colleagues in The Union. It’s a great and relaxed environment to meet other students, where you can also discover opportunities outside of your research that you can get involved with during your time at Manchester Met.

advice center

We hope you never need to use it, but we have free and confidential access Consulting service available at The Union. Trained professionals are on hand to provide specialist, student-centered advice with support including money, housing and academic matters.

Education officer

Each year Manchester Met students elect an Education Officer who leads all aspects of the quality of teaching, learning and research at Manchester Met. This year, after being elected in March 2022, Stella Ibifunmilola is taking a year off from her doctoral studies in the Department of Health Professions to be your Education Officer and she is very passionate about supporting PGR students.

Our mission is to help every student succeed during their time at Manchester Met. So we’ve highlighted a few ways The Union is there for you as you begin that college experience.

The Union Presents: Born To Be Wild Child

Join us for music and family activities, brought to you by the people of Born to be a wild child. With face painting, mud cooking and craft activities, there’s plenty to keep the little ones entertained – giving you a great opportunity to meet fellow students with kids and find out what support you have at the Union and the University.

advice center

Starting college with a kid, or having a kid while in college, is definitely a different experience from college without family responsibilities. To help you get the most out of your experience, the team at our advice center have put together a helpful booklet with some key supporting information.

The Union Building

As a member of The Union, you can make the most of our building throughout your stay at Manchester Met. We have a Shop, Coffee and spaces to relax between conferences and changing tables are available in our toilets if you need them.
