Where is the Darlington Santa sleigh tour in 2021

A POPULAR Santa’s sleigh tour should return with an even bigger itinerary than usual.

Visiting Darlington and its surrounding villages is a highlight for many families as Christmas approaches.

Organized by the Darlington Bondgate Roundtable, the sleigh will travel 13 different routes around town over a two-week period, aiming to pass through as many houses as possible.

Paul Swift, one of 18 volunteers who run the event, which has been a part of Christmas celebrations in Darlington for over 40 years, said: and just thinking it was so magical.

“There’s still a little dust in my eyes thinking about it now.

“It’s pretty hard to explain, but it’s just an amazing thing to get involved in. Every year it touches me.

“It’s the fun part of the year for us. We’re more of a social club than a charity, but this time of year we like to give something back to the city.”

The group aims to raise around £ 10,000 through the event, which starts on Sunday in Middleton St George and culminates in Skerne Park on Monday 20 December.

He will also be spending a day at High Row in the city center so that anyone not living on the route can see the sleigh.

He will be there between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 18.

Due to Covid, they don’t plan to knock on doors this year, but will have collection buckets every evening and also invite members of the public to donate through their Just Giving page.

In the past, he has donated to causes such as the women’s shelter, food banks, youth clubs, and people who need extra support because of the circumstances.

Two routes have been added to this year’s itinerary, meaning it covers more of Darlington than ever.

Some routes have changed from previous years and more information, including timetables and a full list of locations, is available on SantaSatNav.com.

Mr Swift added: “We don’t hand out leaflets like in previous years, but we do more on social media and people will be able to follow us on our routes.

“We don’t want to miss people, so our motto this year is ‘if you’re a fan, tell your grandma’.”
